The Kansas Department of Commerce has announced a new Registered Apprenticeship Project Grant opportunity for 2025, designed to expand and strengthen apprenticeship programs across the state.
This grant program supports established Registered Apprenticeship programs that are at least one year old (established in 2024 or earlier) and in good standing with the Kansas Office of Apprenticeship. It is not intended to create entirely new programs but to scale, strengthen, and broaden existing efforts—particularly those engaging small and rural businesses.
Who is Eligible?
Applications are open to:
- Joint Apprenticeship Training Councils (including labor unions)
- State educational institutions (per K.S.A 76-711)
- Businesses
- Non-profits
- Workforce boards
To qualify, applicants must:
- Hold a Kansas RAPIDS number (beginning with KS)
- Have been operating at least one year
- Be in good standing with the Kansas Office of Apprenticeship and the Department of Revenue
- Submit a plan to increase the number of apprentices by at least 10% year over year
- Provide a 1:1 match for funds (FTE costs can be included)
Funding Details
- Total Budget: Up to $450,000
- Maximum Award: $150,000 per applicant
- Match Requirement: 1:1 match for all grant dollars requested
- Funding Disbursement: Reimbursement on a quarterly basis, with required fiscal and narrative reports
Funds may be used for a range of activities, including:
- Related technical instruction (tuition, course, and book costs)
- Marketing and outreach (paid, social, print, web)
- Hiring apprenticeship support staff or specialists
- Contracts with SMEs, higher education, or partners to align curriculum, reporting, and career pathways
- Administrative costs tied to apprenticeship program management

- Application Open: August 25, 2025
- Submission Deadline: September 15, 2025 (5:00 PM CDT)
- Earliest Notice of Award: October 1, 2025
- Project Completion Date: September 30, 2026
This is the third grant round offered under this state funding program, which has become an essential resource for helping Kansas apprenticeship programs grow and remain sustainable.
