Apprenticeships 101: Registration & Funding Workshop
A hands-on workshop with Kim Eckert and Mallory Dwinal-Palisch. We fill in the DOL registration forms live and walk through the funding that pairs with each step.
What's inside
- The five components that legally make a registered apprenticeship: paid work, wage progression, related technical instruction at roughly 144 hours per 2,000 on-the-job hours, on-the-job learning, and a credential
- The three roles every program needs, employer, training provider and RAP sponsor, and why a single organization can fill all three
- How registration actually works: Appendix A goes first, reviewed by a human apprenticeship training representative who then grants your RAPIDS account. The 671 enrollment form and competency reporting come later
- A live demo of Craft's free Appendix A generator, which drafts a tailored, editable application from your own program materials. Mallory's first Appendix A took four months by hand; the demo produced one in minutes
- The three things you need to start: an occupation code, an employer, and a training provider. No apprentices required up front, and the program can be built iteratively
- Where the money comes from: employer contribution, government funding (SAEF and WIOA, plus Title IV such as Pell for degree paths), philanthropy, and working capital. SAEF and WIOA together typically yield about 5,000 dollars per apprentice
- The caveat worth hearing directly: registration is the starting line for accessing funding. It does not guarantee funding
Who it's for
Anyone standing up a registered apprenticeship for the first time: CTE and workforce leads, employers, training providers and prospective sponsors. No prior experience assumed.
